Families in Cairo 6 weeks left

We were invited to eat at Gina's. She is the only member in her family. Her husband is a Muslim, but not very dedicated. We would like to see if we can baptize her 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son before we leave. Very nice people. I have helped the daugher, Magda, with her algebra.
They pay 5,000 EGPs a month for rent. This is a little over $100 USD and have school fees about 1,000 EGPs and the father probably only makes 7-8,000 a month. This is the road outside of their apartment.
These are some of the investigators, who have come to our dinner and discussions. Two are members, who have helped us translate. Most have limited English fluency. From left to right, Basem, who was baptized about 8 months ago. Paul (Yassir) who was initially a Muslim, but became a Christian about 20 years ago. We had to get Area and apostolic (Elder Bednar) permission to teach him. Madut Bol, our branch president, Maged, Mariam's husband, Guirgis, Maged's brother, Laila, Guirgis' wife, and Randa, one of Mariam's friends. Guirgis and Laila will be interviewed this Friday for baptism.
This is Wael, our Syrian, taking a picture of our dinner. His family is struggling terribly in Syria in the Druse area. He received a call from them last Thursday during our discussion from his 18 year old son, who was crying that they had no money, no electricity, little food, and were staying in the hills to stay away from the bombing in their city (Swaada). I hugged and cried with him. Then insisted that he take money to send them.
Kathleen walking back through the narrow streets with Samia. She was an orphan and raised in an orphanage in Upper Egypt. She became a member about 13 months ago. We were going to take a trip to Israel before we went home, but have decided that we should take her to the temple, if we can do this and defer going to Israel.
Two of Samia's children. Evenis and William. We ate with them. Her husband has been stuck in South Sudan for the last 6 months and they struggle. This is their entry, dinning area and play area.
This is Samia and Emily in their house.
This is the street outside of Samia's house.
This was a group of people after Loro's baptism in front of the building we use as our church in Cairo.
Steve with Loro and Cade Scott. I was asked to confirm Loro and Cade Scott, who is the Elders' Quorum President in the Cairo branch baptized him.
This is a group of our branch members in between the branch meetings. In the center is Wael Nasr with Kathleen behind him.
We went to Upper Egypt with David Adel, who is not a member yet but attends each week. He has a travel company, which we use. It was his birthday this day and we had a small candle on a cake for him.
We visited the Magdi Yacoub Hospital in Aswan to close an intra-aortic balloon pump project we had with them. The CMO, Wael, is next to Kathleen.
This is the sign they put up to recognize the Church's contribution to the equipment in Aswan.
Christian Dornelas, who is now the Area Humanitarian Coordinator, came to Cairo and Aswan and visited some of our projects. We were at Hand-in-Hand here that makes 3-D prosthetic limbs.
This is the new Magdi Yacoub Hospital in Cairo.
We also visit Salaam Medical Center where we are doing a couple of projects. This will be their new eye center by the end of the year.
This is the Salaam Medical Center facility. They have very narrow hallways. The patient rooms are through the doors to the right.
This was from a visit with Egypt Without Disease. We have done a number of projects with them. The current project is to help them create a neo-natal center in Mokkatam.
Daud and his family the week before they left for Winnepeg, Canada. We had done a lot with them over the past year. Since their departure we have spoken with them a couple of times. It is very cold there, but he already has a job driving a fork lift and they will move into a house soon. From back left (past Kathleen) Evinas, Danni, Daud, Steve, (front) Moses, Hanna, and Ahlam.
Samia studying her scriptures at the Center. She is very dedicated and is one of the few from the branch who finished reading the Book of Mormon last year.
This was one of the earlier discussions. Our past branch president, Bahar Marcous, gave them a lecture. He is a good man, but tends not to ask questions. To make the discussions directed I make PowerPoint presentations that are both English and Arabic and I build in questions to ask and scriptures to read.
We purchased the next two art items from Wael, who made them. I negotiated up the price. He wanted to give us both for $50 and I paid him $200. I will take them home to remember my dear friends here.
