Lunch after church for new members, Daud's family
We had an light lunch after our meetings on November 7th for the 11 new members, who were baptized the week before. Unfortunately, about half were not there. Most had to work. This is the back of the building where we hold our church meetings. It is rented, as the church cannot own property in Egypt yet. The church has rented this building for over 30 years.
On the way back to our apartment our branch president, Madut Bol, and clerk, Faragella, passed us on this bicycle. I thought it was appropriate. Both are South Sudanese refugees, although Faragella was born in Cairo. Madut is only 27 years old and has been here for 9 years. Both are wonderful to work with. I am Madut's first counselor now.
There are many bugs and flies in Egypt. This is one that stung me while I was working out this past week. The flies are mostly annoying and with all of the animal feces on the ground, I am always thinking where they have been before they land on me.
We did a few activities with Daud Hakim's family the past couple of weeks. To celebrate Hanna's birthday we took the children to KFC. They enjoyed it. The family struggles financial, as do almost all of the families here. They are waiting for the final approval to relocate to Canada.
These boys are Danny and Moses. Danny is almost 14 and Moses just turned 8 and was baptized this month by his father, who is also the Elders' Quorum President.
This is the street outside where Daud's family live. They also live on the 5th floor with very narrow steps. Their rent has recently risen to about 4,000 pounds, which is about what he was making before he closed his A/C business.
Danny is opening their gate to let us into their apartment.
We are with Daud's mother-in-law, who we helped get injections she needed for pain in her knees. Our children contributed to her and she will now leave for South Sudan on Friday to return to her other children before Daud and his family relocate to Canada.
We are with Daud's wife, mother-in-law, 2 of his children and the children of another member of the branch, Salah.
Two of the girls in the Cairo Branch worked with their area Girl Scouts and collected a large amount of food for the Nile River Branch. We have started to distribute it and put it in packages. This is the branch president's office. Each day after we workout we stop by and take a couple of packages to our apartment and then take them to different families.
