June 28 2025 Don Bosco, Fady, Soccer team, and Professional Writing class
We had a very nice dinner at Daud's family. They have a very tiny apartment and only part of the family could eat with us. They have 4 children and her mother living with them in 2 bedrooms. They also live on the 5 or 6th floor that require walking up very narrow stairs (no elevator). He is now the branch's elders quorum president and the soccer coach.
We have agreed to have another project with the Don Bosco School. They are an Italian, Catholic school that focuses on education. They have been in Egypt for decades. This is their primary campus. They have a high school and vocational training. Our project is to help fund new training equipment for their air conditioning and provide 66 scholarships for the poor to receive the training.
This is the director of the A/C training. He is a Coptic Christian, who graduated here and then went to the university to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering. This is some of the equipment they have now.
We had our friends, Mariam and Maged, go with us, as he was interested in taking the A/C training. He will probably start in July or August. Currently, he works for a photo company and only makes $100 per month. They live in an apartment that is literally falling down. Recently a large piece of the ceiling fell and just missed hitting one of their daughters.
This is the sign to the lab. They teach the high school in Italian, but the vocational training mostly in Arabic with a few sections in English.
Here is our branch president for the Arabic branch, President Bahar Marcous. Fady Ramzy and I were in his office. Fady moved a week ago to Toronto, Canada. He, hopefully, will join the church there. He is a mechanical engineer and very smart. He arrived and is getting settled. We will stay in touch.
These are boys/ men who are now participating on the soccer team that we helped fund. It has grown exponentially. They are also cleaning our gathering center now to help pay for the practice fields. The coach is also having a scripture study with those from the team who want to attend on Friday afternoons. This day they played their first inter-club scrimmage and one side won 8-5.
I also started teaching a professional writing class for an NGO that we have worked with. Their name now is Terre de Homme. This is the first class. We should have two more. I took the metro both ways. Going I was in an extremely hot car and was sweating badly when I arrived. On the way back to our apartment the metro was very crowded and I ended up standing for 20-25 minutes with a lot of other sweaty people.
