Feb 9 to 13 2025 Trip to Alexandria
Sister Mariam Hanna helped Kathleen prepare an Egyptian food for her and our families. It is called Koshari and was originally used to feed troops, as it is high in carbs. It tasted very good and we had so much left over we used it for the next day when we had three others eating with us and Kathleen made soup from the remaining.
We find interesting signs everywhere. Here the cooking just fell asleep.
We traveled to Alexandria with the Phillips this week to view a project and had the opportunity to have lunch with Tom, who is only one of two active members we have in Alexandria. Sadly, he makes the equivalent of only $80 USD each month, but is a wonderful man. As in most countries, the minorities and refugees are taken advantage of.
This is the inside of the Alexandria public library. Many centuries ago Alexandria had the largest library in the world, but much of the texts were destroyed in 48 AD and in the 4th century. This may have been built near or on the old library.
These are two of the main mosques in Alexandria.
This is the Citadel that was built on the remains for the great lighthouse of Alexandria. The lighthouse was destroyed by an earthquake in the 1300s. The citadel was built to protect the harbor and to house the royal family.
